By the end of 2024, the Cambodian government had issued a total of 195 casino licenses, but one was revoked, one suspended, and 15 had expired, leaving only 178 casinos in operation. Despite this, the tax revenue from the casino industry still reached about $63 million, an 85% increase from 2023.
Reports indicate that previously, Vietnam and Thailand had not opened their casino industries, but now Vietnam has started operating casinos, and Thailand is also drafting plans. Currently, Vietnam has 9 operating casinos, which are large in scale, modern in facilities, and attractive, and Vietnamese citizens can now legally enter these casinos for entertainment. In Thailand, there are plans to legalize casinos and build up to 7 new casinos in places like Bangkok.
Additionally, countries like Laos, Singapore, Malaysia, and Myanmar have also fully opened their casino businesses and have played a significant role in attracting foreign tourists. Therefore, Cambodia's gambling industry will face fierce competition in the future.
