Thai police raid a telecommunications fraud den in a Bangkok apartment.

The Director of the 1st District Police Station under the Royal Thai Police, Major General Surapong, and Deputy Director Major General Chayanon led a team with a search warrant issued by the Criminal Court on January 12, 2025, to conduct a surprise raid on apartment 311 in Nakniwat21 Lane, Lat Phrao Subdistrict, Lat Phrao District, Bangkok. During the operation, 8 SIM card signal converters and other devices used for telecommunications fraud were seized.

This action stemmed from a case detected by the AOC Operation Command Center, where the criminal suspect impersonated government agencies to intimidate victims, claiming they were involved in illegal activities and needed to transfer money for "investigating the case." Believing this to be true, the victim transferred 71,000 Thai Baht to the suspect. Further investigation revealed that this phone number was linked to 12 other similar cases, with total losses exceeding one million Thai Baht.

During the raid, the police seized:

1. 8 SIM card signal converters (each capable of holding 32 SIM cards)

2. Two internet modems

3. One surveillance camera

All the items mentioned above have been confiscated and handed over to the investigative department for further investigation. Preliminary investigations indicated that the room had been rented by a foreign national on November 26, 2024, for a monthly rent of 4,800 Thai Baht. The individual is suspected of violating multiple charges, including "manufacturing, using, importing, exporting, or trading wireless communication devices without permission" and "establishing a wireless communication station without authorization." The police are accelerating their efforts to track down the related suspects and are preparing to prosecute them according to the law.
