A Chinese citizen wanted by Beijing authorities for participating in illegal gambling was arrested at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) by the Bureau of Immigration (BI) authorities.
Bureau of Immigration Director Joel Anthony Vidal confirmed in a statement that the passenger, 38-year-old Huang Sen, was intercepted on January 11 in the departure area of Terminal 1 at Ninoy Aquino International Airport.
Vidal stated that the immigration officer handling Huang Sen found his name in the bureau's Interpol Negative Information System and arrested him.
Vidal revealed that at the request of the Chinese government, the Interpol Beijing branch issued a red notice for Huang Sen on December 4 last year. "He was later detained at the immigration detention facility in Taguig City, awaiting deportation," Vidal added.
The Director of the Bureau of Immigration stated, "He will be deported as an undesirable foreigner and placed on our blacklist of undesirable foreigners to prevent him from re-entering."
According to Peter de Guzman, the acting head of the Bureau of Immigration's Interpol division, on August 27 last year, the Luojiang District Public Security Bureau in Deyang City, China, issued an arrest warrant for Huang Guangyu.
De Guzman stated that the case originated from Huang Guangyu conspiring with other suspects to operate an illegal gambling website on the internet, serving global online customers.
It is reported that the gambling group employed over 70,000 people and enticed more than one million Chinese customers to gamble on their website.
The group managed gambling activities with bets exceeding 700 billion yuan, equivalent to 95 billion US dollars, and profited at least 2 billion yuan, equivalent to 272 million US dollars.
Chinese authorities have identified Huang Guangyu as the head of the gambling group's gaming department.
