On January 13th, just after 6 AM, a kidnapping and shooting incident occurred near the entrance of Koreatown, Clark Hills Villages, City of Angeles, within the Clark Freeport and Special Economic Zone in central Luzon, Philippines. A Chinese individual was abducted, and there were casualties from gunfire. It is currently unclear whether the hostages retaliated with firearms against the kidnappers, or if the kidnappers shot the hostages' bodyguards, drivers, or relatives.
A 29-second video circulating online, apparently shot by a resident of a nearby apartment building in Koreatown, shows the scene from a distance and in the dark, making it difficult to discern the exact details due to poor street lighting. Initially, a black SUV can be seen parked across the street, amidst sounds of male shouting and calling, followed by successive screams from a woman. Shortly after, a car resembling a taxi (with a flashing light on top that might suggest it's a taxi) appears, with a person in white standing about 3-5 meters behind it, though their actions are unclear. Within a second or two, the person in white walks towards the direction of the taxi, which starts moving forward as the car door shuts. The taxi then suddenly speeds up, creating a distance of about 8-10 meters from the person in white.
At the 12-second mark of the video, two gunshots are heard, and the person in white appears to dodge; subsequently, gunfire intensifies, resembling the sound of popping beans, and the distance between the person in white and the taxi increases. The person filming seems startled by the sudden gunfire, retracting the phone, and both the taxi and the person in white move out of frame. When the camera refocuses, the gunfire becomes even more intense, clearly involving two or more different types of firearms. During this time, two to three more figures appear in the distance, seemingly engaging in a shootout with the earlier taxi. It's unclear if the taxi driver was shot or stopped for another reason, but the taxi ends up parked diagonally on the roadside, with continuous gunfire throughout the incident, totaling over 50 shots heard. The black car seemed unrelated to the incident, remaining stationary throughout the 29 seconds.
Experienced drivers who viewed the video clip suggest that the gunfire likely came from high-powered submachine guns, typically used by kidnappers like the "M16."
As sources indicated, if Chinese individuals were indeed kidnapped, the shootout captured in the video likely involved the Chinese nationals and their bodyguards or drivers, who engaged the kidnappers upon realizing the abduction attempt. The vehicle resembling a taxi in the video was likely not a taxi but the hostages' vehicle, with the light initially thought to be a taxi light actually reflecting street lamps.
Both the kidnappers and the kidnapping targets were armed, indicating that the targets might have significant backgrounds, possibly being Chinese offshore gambling operators.
To date, no information related to this case has been disclosed by the Philippine media or the police departments in Angeles City and surrounding areas.
