Pay attention if you are dealing with Thai and Indian markets!

To combat fraudsters, SIM cards in India and Thailand will be sold after biometric verification.

It is reported that due to the global threat posed by the network scam operations in Myawaddy at the Thai-Myanmar border, the mobile SIM cards produced and sold in India and Thailand will be registered with added biometric information before sale.

The National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) of Thailand stated: To combat crimes related to telecommunications technology and online money laundering, each purchase of a SIM card will require a passport, and foreigners can buy a maximum of three SIM cards from telecom operators.

If the registration system is not complied with and SIM cards sold do not meet the new laws, Thai police will impose fines and imprisonment.

As many Indian citizens have been trafficked in the Myawaddy scam operations, suffering financial fraud and losses, the Office of the Prime Minister of India will register all biometric information of buyers and users on all SIM cards issued henceforth, allowing their use. India has announced that users of mobile SIM cards must register their biometric data through the Aadhaar digital ID system.
