On January 25th, according to Thai media reports, seven Chinese citizens were kidnapped at a resort in Phibun Mangsahan County, Ubon Province, Thailand, and sought help from relatives through mobile phone location. The kidnappers included three Thai special duty police officers, one border police officer, one border guard soldier, and several accomplices, demanding a ransom of 2 million Thai Baht.
After receiving the alarm, the local police quickly launched a rescue operation, successfully rescued the hostages, and arrested 15 suspects, including the police officers and soldiers involved. Investigations revealed that the victims had previously been lured from Laos to Thailand by a criminal gang with the promise of high-paying jobs, and were then threatened and extorted.
Currently, the suspects involved are being prosecuted for abuse of power, kidnapping, and extortion, while the victims are also facing legal accountability for illegal entry. The case is under further review.

Thai police and military personnel conspired to extort a ransom of 2 million from 7 Chinese men.
