Manila, Philippines—According to the Philippine Anti-Organized Crime Commission (PAOCC), Philippine authorities raided and shut down a Philippine Offshore Gaming Operator (POGO) facility in Parañaque City on Thursday, arresting 453 people.
Investment Scams and Sports Betting Fraud
Based on information from PAOCC, preliminary interrogations of the arrested foreign nationals suggest that the organization is suspected of investment scams based on fixed securities exchange transactions, as well as sports betting fraud, primarily targeting investors from China and India.
In this operation, a total of 453 people were arrested, including:
307 Filipinos
137 Chinese
3 Vietnamese
2 Malaysians
2 Thais
1 Indonesian
1 Taiwanese
The raid was conducted by a multi-departmental coalition
The lead for this raid came from local citizen reports, followed by a joint operation by multiple law enforcement agencies, including:
Philippine National Police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP CIDG)
Southern Police District (SPD)
Department of Justice Office of Cybercrime (DOJ OOC)
Bureau of Immigration (BI) Intelligence Division
Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP)
The case is currently under further investigation, with more actions expected to follow.
