The Thai Immigration Bureau recently reported that a Chinese national was intercepted by the police while attempting to enter Thailand with a forged Taiwanese passport. He has been detained and is facing further investigation.
According to Napatpong Suphaporn, the director of the Immigration Bureau in Sa Kaeo Province, on March 3rd at 7:30 PM, the Sa Kaeo police, in collaboration with border checkpoint officials, conducted a rigorous entry inspection at the permanent border checkpoint in Aranyaprathet District. This operation is one of the measures implemented by the Thai government and the Royal Thai Police to combat illegal entry and fraud rings.
During the inspection, the police discovered a man who had traveled from Poipet, Cambodia, applying for a Thai visa with a Taiwanese passport. However, immigration officers found anomalies in the passport, suspecting it to be forged. Investigators immediately intervened to verify, confirming that the man, Wang Murong (transliterated), 39, was actually a Chinese national.
Upon thorough examination, the police confirmed that the Taiwanese passport Wang Murong carried was forged and took him to the immigration office in Aranyaprathet for interrogation. Facing the investigation, Wang Murong admitted he was a Chinese citizen and had lived in Cambodia for a long time. He revealed that he obtained the fake passport through a Chinese national in Cambodia to successfully enter Thailand, but refused to disclose the specific handling fees and related personnel information.
Currently, Wang Murong has been transferred to the Khlong Luek Police Station in Sa Kaeo Province, where the police have charged him with "forgery and possession of a forged passport" and plan to conduct an in-depth investigation into his background.
Law enforcement suspects that Wang Murong may be connected to a Chinese fraud ring in Cambodia, possibly even being a core member of the ring. The police speculate that his attempt to enter Thailand with a fake passport might be to evade crackdowns by the Cambodian government.
The Thai police stated that they will continue to strengthen border security measures and intensify efforts to combat transnational crime to prevent fraud rings from using Thailand as a conduit for illegal activities.
