On March 12, 2025, the Border Guard Force (BGF) headquarters in the Myawaddy Valley of Kayin State held a press conference to report on the results of the past month's crackdown on telecommunications fraud.
The BGF spokesperson stated that since February 12, over 7,000 trapped foreigners have been rescued and more than 2,000 have been repatriated, involving over 30 countries. Among them, six Chinese nationals related to telecommunications fraud have been legally dealt with. Although they were not the "bosses" of the fraud groups, they were key figures, and the BGF plans to hand them over to the Chinese government for further handling.
At the press conference, the BGF displayed a large amount of equipment seized from the fraud dens, including:
- 952 mobile phones
- 128 desktop computers
- 430 laptops
Originally planned for destruction, these devices have been formally requested by the Chinese government for transfer, in order to further investigate the masterminds behind the scenes and expand the crackdown on cross-border telecommunications fraud networks. Currently, the BGF is coordinating with the Chinese police on the transfer matters to accelerate the investigation process.
BGF reports the results of the crackdown on telecom fraud: over 7,000 people rescued, a large amount of equipment to be handed over to the Chinese side for investigation.
