On April 10th, in response to the recent shocking incident where Filipino-Chinese businessman Anson Que and his driver were kidnapped and murdered, the Presidential Palace of the Philippines, Malacañang, officially responded, stating that President Marcos has instructed relevant units to "thoroughly investigate" the matter.
Deputy Secretary-General and spokesperson of the Presidential Communications Office, Claire Castro, expressed that the government takes the security concerns raised by the Chinese business community very seriously and promises not to take these series of kidnapping incidents lightly.
According to incomplete statistics from the Chinese business community, there have been at least 12 kidnapping cases this year, causing widespread unease and concern throughout the business sector.
The background of the case shows that Anson Que was in the steel business. He and his driver went missing after leaving their office in Valenzuela City on March 29. The next day, the family reported the disappearance to the police and requested that the matter be handled discreetly. On April 10th, the bodies of the two were discovered by the police in Rodriguez, Rizal Province.
The Presidential Palace emphasized that the Marcos administration has explicitly requested the police and intelligence units to conduct thorough investigations into all related cases, aiming to combat the potential criminal organizations behind them.
The government promises to ensure the safety of the business community and also sends a strong message to society that "kidnapping crimes cannot be tolerated."
