Recently, a court in Heze, Shandong Province, publicly tried and sentenced a case of "killing foreign disk" telecom network fraud. The case mainly targeted Indians as the victims, involved a huge amount of money, and used heinous methods, eventually sentencing 9 core members of the gang to fixed-term imprisonments ranging from 5 years to 14 years and 9 months, along with corresponding fines.
According to the judgment, in May 2023, the fraud gang led by He Mou Tian rented a venue in Heze to set up a telecom fraud den specifically targeting Indians. They created a "high-yield investment platform" to induce victims to continuously "increase stakes" in investments on the fake platform, thereby achieving large-scale capital plunder.
The fraudulent activities lasted from June 1, 2023, to January 13, 2024. In just over 7 months, 66,800 Indian victims were defrauded, with a total fraud amount of 517 million Indian Rupees, equivalent to more than 40 million Chinese Yuan.
The court legally recognized that the gang constituted a fraud crime and sentenced 9 people to different terms of imprisonment according to the roles and division of labor of the accused, reflecting a strict stance against transnational telecom fraud crimes.
The case also revealed the covert nature and cross-border harm of "killing foreign disk" crimes. The methods of fraud continuously extend outward, targeting foreign "disks," but the domestic attitude of legal accountability and strict punishment is unequivocal.
Now, even dealing with foreign currency in China will get you arrested, amazing.
