Sri Lankan police recently launched a large-scale operation against telecommunications fraud, arresting 130 Chinese nationals suspected of involvement in cyber fraud. This morning, the first batch of 85 suspects were flown to Guangzhou on a chartered flight to be repatriated.
The court approved the transfer of equipment, and the Chinese side officially took over.
It is reported that on June 19, the Kandy Province Teldeniya District Court ruled to agree to hand over a large number of seized electronic devices, including 206 mobile phones, 121 laptops, and related equipment, to representatives designated by the Chinese Embassy in Sri Lanka. This transfer is an important step in the cooperation between the law enforcement departments of the two countries in transnational cases.
This ruling was issued at the formal request of the Sri Lankan Criminal Investigation Department (CID), showing that cooperation between the two countries in combating cross-border cybercrime is continuously deepening.
Details of the arrests: Many were hiding in a luxury hotel and had refused to appear in court.
The 130 arrested Chinese nationals, including 108 men and 22 women, were all found in a high-end hotel in Kandy. A large number of communication and electronic devices were seized at the scene, initially determined to be involved in telecommunications fraud activities.
However, during the process, 7 people refused to appear in court, and arrest warrants have been issued. The rest of the personnel were subsequently transferred to the Welisara Detention Center in the suburbs of Colombo for resettlement and repatriation arrangements.
The first batch of 85 people were repatriated this morning, and the rest are awaiting further arrangements.
Early this morning, Sri Lankan police dispatched 5 special vehicles to escort 85 suspects to Katunayake International Airport, and they were sent to Guangzhou, China, on a SriLankan Airlines chartered flight. It is reported that the remaining suspects will also be repatriated in batches.
Currently, the Sri Lankan side has not specified whether these individuals will face criminal charges upon their return to the country, but based on available intelligence, the relevant Chinese departments will take over for further investigation.

Sri Lanka takes major action! 130 Chinese suspects involved in telecom fraud arrested, 85 have been extradited back to the country.
