On July 14th, the Cyber Crime Investigation Bureau of Pakistan raided a scam hotspot disguised as an "online customer service center" in the G-10 sector of Islamabad, arresting over 60 individuals, including 5 Chinese nationals, and seized a large number of computers, mobile phones, and cryptocurrency accounts.
According to the police, the gang used social media platforms such as Facebook, Telegram, and WhatsApp to lure victims with the promise of "high-paying part-time jobs," deceiving them into participating in scams like "order brushing rebates" and "typing to earn money," eventually funneling the stolen funds into virtual wallets to evade tracking.
The scam organization operated like a company with clear divisions of labor: some were responsible for drawing in traffic through chats, others handled the transfer of funds, and some even impersonated "beautiful customer service" using AI-generated avatars to precisely target victims. The Chinese suspects include Xu Haidong, Peng Dingsong, Shu Hui, and Zhou Xiaochuan, with the fifth person's identity not disclosed.
This is the third major cyber fraud case uncovered by the Pakistani authorities within a few weeks, with frequent involvement of Chinese nationals, raising concerns. The case is still under further investigation.
