Tao Zhe, a 19-year-old college student from Suining, Jiangsu, has been missing since he went to Phnom Penh, Cambodia in May 2025, and it has been over two months since his disappearance. His family suspects that he was lured abroad by a "high-paying job" scam and fell into a trap of overseas gray industry.
Tao Zhe's mother posted a video on social media asking for help, tearfully stating that her son is naive and lacks social experience, making him highly susceptible to believing false recruitment information. According to her, Tao Zhe traveled from Xuzhou to Guangzhou on May 1st, and then flew to Phnom Penh the next day, after which he completely lost contact. After reporting to the police, the authorities initially judged that he was deceived by an illegal recruitment organization to go abroad and might have fallen deep into a system of fraud or illegal employment.
The police in Suining County have officially filed a case for investigation and are treating it as an emergency request for assistance. However, due to the incident occurring overseas, it is challenging to gather information and provide help, and Tao Zhe's current situation remains unclear.
In recent years, the Cambodian government has been intensifying efforts to crack down on telecommunications fraud and illegal labor, with similar cases frequently coming to light. The disappearance of Tao Zhe serves as another warning to young people and families not to be deceived by overseas "high-paying recruitment" and to beware of falling into cross-border scams.
The family urges anyone with information about Tao Zhe's whereabouts to immediately contact the police or his family members to help safely bring him back to the country. Time is of the essence, and it concerns his safety, making it urgent.
