Recently, the Sri Lankan police disclosed a kidnapping case involving overseas Chinese. The case shows that a Chinese businessman, who runs a business in Colombo, was kidnapped by several compatriots and lost about $60,000 (equivalent to approximately 180 million Sri Lankan rupees) through virtual currency transfer under coercion.
According to the police report, the businessman operates a shop named "Hua Hui". The incident occurred around 9 PM on August 22, when he was driving in the RA De Mel Mawatha area and was suddenly intercepted and forcibly taken away.
During this time, the businessman was detained for nearly 24 hours, during which his property was plundered, and he was forced to complete a large transaction through the USDT system. It was not until the next day that he was abandoned on the roadside.
Currently, the victim has been sent to a private hospital in Narahenpita for treatment. The local police have filed a case and are further investigating the incident.
