Despite repeated bans by the Philippine authorities, illegal online gambling advertisements continue to be rampant. Mass pushes on Viber and mobile text messages have become "disaster areas". Many people have received pushes named MG News, claiming to offer high bonuses and guiding users to enter the Casino Espinho website, which is claimed to be registered in the UK and Malta, requiring the filling of sensitive personal information.
More worryingly, some texts signed TELBONUS are suspected of using IMSI catchers to bypass telecom filters and directly enter the user's inbox. These advertisements often promise cash or betting money, enticing registration and uploading of identity documents.
The Philippine digital rights organization Digital Pinoys has launched an anonymous reporting platform, collecting related illegal websites, advertising spokespersons, and distribution channels, and forwarding them to CICC and DICT for follow-up investigations. The organization also emphasizes that any role profiting from illegal gambling—whether internet celebrities, celebrities, or platforms that allow the spread of advertisements—may be held accountable.
