On July 14, 2024, Thai police announced that during the one-month anti-gambling operation held during the 2024 European Football Championship, a total of 3863 suspects were arrested and more than 200 websites were shut down.
The police released the data of this crackdown, which officially ended this morning before the final match between Spain and England. It was confirmed that 224 local gambling websites were shut down, and 846 suspects related to these sites were arrested, including 145 believed to be operating these sites and 701 gamblers. According to the Bangkok Post, these websites had a turnover exceeding 240 million Thai Baht (approximately 6.64 million USD).
Deputy Director of the Thai National Police, Akradet Pimolsri, stated that out of the total 3863 arrests, 3017 were made in gambling venues, including 50 accused bookmakers and 2944 accused gamblers.
This morning, Spain defeated England 2-1 in the European Championship final held in Berlin, Germany, becoming the 2024 European Champions.
