Philippine gaming regulator PAGCOR has warned licensed Internet Gaming Licensees (IGLs) that they are on guard against a disinformation campaign involving a forged letter instructing them to cease operations immediately.
Attorney Jessa Mariz Fernandez, head of PAGCOR’s offshore gaming licensing division, said the forged letter, dated July 26, purports to be an order to the local government unit (LGU) in Metro Manila. The letter was a forged version of an official memo she had issued three days before President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. delivered his State of the Union address, in which he announced that all IGLs would be banned starting at the end of the year. Or POGO operation.
Fernandez clarified: “We have not issued any memorandum instructing local government units to immediately shut down POGO operations. The President’s directive is clear: we must shut down POGO operations by the end of the year and we will abide by it.”
