Goa's Chief Minister Pramod Sawant stated that all illegal advertisements promoting online games and gambling from Sri Lanka will be removed within the state.
According to several Indian news outlets, Sawant said: "Our advertising policy will be finalized soon, and we will cooperate with the police and the home department to ensure compliance."
"In the first phase, we will shut down or dismantle billboards (referring to the aforementioned illegal advertisements, mainly outdoor billboards). We will not allow such advertisements. The government will not profit from them."
The Porvorim police will write a preliminary crime report on the billboards found along the Mandovi riverbank.
Previously, Fatorda legislator Vijai Sardesai had raised this issue, claiming that he had formally complained to the Deputy Minister of Home Affairs, but no action was taken at that time to address the issue.
Sardesai said: "We sent a reminder letter in October 2022. The Deputy Minister of Home Affairs wrote to the Director General of Police to take action. The Director General of Police mentioned two billboards, but they did not mention the casino. However, these billboards had images of playing cards." He also added that illegal advertisements reappeared on the routes to Mopa and Dabolim airports.
Illegal gambling advertisements are also a current issue in Australia, as the Australian Communications and Media Authority recently dealt with a major case involving Kayo under Hubbl.
Regarding the latest news in the Indian online gaming industry, Indian online gaming company BigCash has launched a global expansion plan, starting with Brazil.
