Big Brazil, which utilizes the Caesars Sportsbook brand, is one of the high-profile applicants seeking to expand its operations through federal licensing, according to Brazilian Gaming Magazine. The move is in line with its strategy to tap into Brazil's vast market potential, particularly in the densely populated state of Rio de Janeiro. Following a successful proof-of-concept (PoC) demonstration to the Rio de Janeiro State Lottery (Loterj), the company’s leadership expressed optimism about the approval of its technology.

Sportingbet, part of global betting group Entain Group, is also one of the early applicants, according to the same source. Known for its robust betting platform, Sportingbet aims to strengthen its position in the Brazilian market, where it has been one of the pioneer sportsbooks. The application, filed through its subsidiary Ventmear do Brasil, highlights its commitment to comply with local regulations set by the Secretariat of Prizes and Wagering (SPA).

The regulator set a 90-day priority processing deadline for applications submitted by August 20 and promised to make a final decision by January 1, 2025. The regulatory move is part of Brazil’s efforts to regulate and control the sports betting landscape, which has seen a rapid increase in consumer interest and participation.

The much-anticipated regulated market

According to the Association of National Gaming and Lotteries (ANJL), the license application process is rigorous and requires extensive documentation and compliance with strict requirements. ANJL President Plínio Lemos Jorge highlighted the complexity of the process, noting that listing on Sigap demonstrates that a company has met all preliminary requirements to operate within the regulatory framework.

The upcoming regulations are eagerly awaited by local and international stakeholders. The regulations are expected to establish a structured and sustainable gaming environment that protects consumers while promoting economic growth through the gaming industry. This development is particularly important as Brazil positions itself as a key market for the global gaming and betting industry.

While the federal licensing process moves forward, Big Brazil is also seeking to obtain state-level certification in Rio de Janeiro, which could allow it to operate nationwide given Loterj's prior precedent. This strategic move could put Big Brazil in a strong position at both the state and national levels to expand its presence in Brazil's vast market.
