The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) has released a report on actions taken against interactive gambling during the period from April to June 2024.
During this period, ACMA investigated 514 inquiries and complaints, completed 14 investigations into 15 gambling websites, identified 17 violations of the Interactive Gambling Act 2001 (IGA), issued 15 formal warnings, and blocked 50 websites and 359 URLs.
Of the complaints received, 463 (90%) were valid complaints requiring investigation under the IGA. In these investigations, 17 were found to be in violation of the IGA, including 12 cases of providing prohibited interactive gambling services to Australian customers. This included four cases of providing unlicensed regulated interactive gambling services to Australian customers, and one case of promoting prohibited and/or unlicensed regulated interactive gambling services in Australia. The Kayo case is an example.
Of the 15 formal warnings issued, four were recent cases where Dama NV and Strukin Ltd were formally warned against providing services to illegal gambling sites for Wanted Win; Libergos Ltd and Hollycorn were formally warned against providing services to illegal gambling sites for Richard Casino. Richard Casino and Wanted Win, along with Jogi Casino, Dundee Slots, Lucky Hunter, Lucky Wins, Lukki Casino, Spin Fever, Clubhouse Casino, and Winport Casino were also included. A Big Candy, Jackpoty, and John Vegas Casino were later added. These sites are part of the 50 blocked sites.
In addition to actively combating illegal gambling sites, ACMA also conducted a consumer awareness campaign, including promoting the Responsible Wagering Australia (RWA)'s credit card ban to Australian citizens.
