The Danish gambling regulator Spillemyndigheden reports that revenues in all four gambling sectors increased in June. Boosted by the Euro 2024, betting revenues grew by 75%, but online and land-based casinos also saw gains.
Total gambling revenues reached 703 million Danish kroner (€94.2 million), a 37% increase year-on-year. Online casinos led with 303 million Danish kroner, but the main push came from the growth in sports betting, although with a lower payout ratio compared to June 2023.
Online gambling revenues increased by 75.71%, reaching 271 million Danish kroner, with mobile accounting for 72.98% of the total. Meanwhile, gaming machines generated 97 million Danish kroner, up 6.61%, and land-based casinos' GGR grew by 7.1%, reaching 32 million Danish kroner.
Spillemyndigheden states that as of the end of June, the ROFUS self-exclusion service had 50,403 registered users: 33,511 permanent and 16,892 temporary.
Last month, Spillemyndigheden consulted on its proposed supplier licensing certification process. Stakeholders, including gambling and iGaming providers, can submit responses via a form on the regulator's website until August 19.
The proposal involves the introduction of the Danish gambling supplier licensing certification from January 2025, following closely behind neighboring Sweden's footsteps. Spillemyndigheden said this system would enhance market safety and player protection standards by providing a clearer understanding of requirements. A new set of rules will delineate responsibilities between license holders and gaming providers, requiring suppliers to hold their own licenses and report to the regulator.
