The Belgian Gambling Commission (CJH) has released a new report indicating that the country's gambling sector's Gross Gaming Revenue (GGR) is expected to grow by 16.7% in 2023.
In 2023, the total gaming revenue in Belgium amounted to 1.7 billion euros (1.5 billion GBP/1.9 billion USD), a significant increase from 1.5 billion euros in 2022. Online growth was 18%, reaching a total gaming revenue of 944.6 million euros, while offline gaming also saw substantial growth, amounting to 758 million euros, an increase of 15.2% year-on-year.
Despite increased restrictions imposed by the Belgian government on the industry, it still managed to achieve growth. Since 2022, operators have been required to implement a weekly loss limit of 200 euros, down from the 500-euro limit in 2020.
By mid-2023, they were forced to cease all advertising. After the last attempt by the Belgian sports teams and operator alliance failed to prevent this measure, the advertising ban took effect on July 1, 2023.
