According to data released by the Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Agency (MLGCA), Maryland's retail and mobile sports betting revenue reached $333.3 million in July. This represents a 34.7% increase compared to the same period in 2023, but a 13.4% decline from June this year. Online expenditure was about $324.9 million, with retail sports betting spending at $8.4 million.
Players won $289.5 million, with the operators holding 13.1%, which is higher than last year's 11.4%, and an improvement from June's 10.3%. After deducting $1 million for promotional play, the taxable winnings amounted to $41.7 million, up 88.7% over last year and a 9.2% increase from June 2024. Online taxable winnings were $40.7 million, and retail was $1 million. The total taxes for July amounted to $6.3 million, with $6.1 million coming from online operations.
Parimutuel betting accounted for $109.3 million of the total bets, with professional baseball once again being the most popular sport, attracting bets of $85.1 million. Professional basketball saw bets of $40.9 million, tennis $37.6 million, and football $22.5 million.
Maryland's six casinos reported gaming revenues of $169.8 million in July, a 2.6% decrease from July 2023 and a 4.2% decrease from June 2024. All six casinos reported year-over-year declines in revenue.
