The National Advertising Self-Regulation Council (CONAR) in Brazil has issued warnings to three operators regarding their advertisements targeted at Brazilians. The implicated operators include Esportes da Sorte, Estrela Bet, and MrJack.bet.
CONAR's requests are not mandatory; however, operators often comply with the self-regulatory body's findings.
Esportes da Sorte was found to improperly use the concept of profit or revenue in its advertisement stating "Increase your additional income." Esportes da Sorte indicated that CONAR had not yet received an official complaint, but it had responded to the warning by removing the advertisement.
Estrela Bet faced a similar issue where the CONAR Ethics Committee reported an advertisement that claimed “Fun, quick, easy profits.” Estrela Bet has removed the ad and committed to "maintaining transparency and complying with current regulatory standards."
As for MrJack.bet, their advertisement that stated “Play mines and win money” came under scrutiny as CONAR suggested that it could be perceived as guaranteeing winnings.
Meanwhile, some of Brazil’s largest media companies are also considering entering the soon-to-launch regulated online gambling market in Brazil. Reportedly, Globo, Band UOL, and SBT are considering introducing online sports betting franchises.
Globo, the largest among them, has registered for a license with the gambling management system SIGAP. Reports suggest that the company is evaluating a potential collaboration with BetMGM.
Globo owns the fantasy game Cartola FC and has recently designated Betnacional as a sponsor for its broadcast of the Brazilian Serie A football league. Meanwhile, the SBT Group has registered the domain TeleSena.bet, named after its lottery business. The group is reportedly considering collaboration with Playtech and Galerabet. Finally, it is reported that Band UOL is in discussions with OpenBet.
So far, six operators have applied for a Brazilian gambling license: Betnacional, Kaizen's Betano, Superbet, Rei do Pitaco, Sportingbet, and Big Brazil.
