Former Mayor of Banban, Danleng Province, Philippines, Alice Guo, known as the "POGO Mayor," is still in the Philippines and is preparing a motion to reconsider the dismissal decision by the Ombudsman's office, according to her lawyer Stephen David. David revealed that Guo is currently in central Philippines and maintains contact with him via video call. Despite appearing to be under significant stress and in declining health, she is actively dealing with the legal investigation concerning the Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGO). David is preparing a review request to take the case to the appellate court. Guo is frustrated with the Ombudsman's ruling but hopes to prove her innocence through legal proceedings.
Previously, Guo was dismissed from office by the Ombudsman for allegedly participating in illegal online gambling activities locally. The police have been unable to capture her! A legislator blasted the police for their performance in the Alice Guo case.
On August 15, local time, a Philippine legislator criticized the Philippine National Police (PNP) for still failing to arrest the well-known fugitive Alice Guo. Kabataan Party legislator Raoul Manuel noted, "When it comes to important figures, the Philippine National Police seem to have difficulty making arrests. But for ordinary people, they are easily apprehended. This issue really needs to be addressed."
Last month, the Senate issued an arrest warrant for Guo for her repeated failures to attend committee hearings on illegal Philippine offshore gaming operations in her town, thus being accused of contempt of court.
The Philippine Interior Minister Benhur Abalos Jr. defended the national police, stating that they are actively investigating and monitoring. PNP Chief Rommel Marbil assured that he would continue to coordinate with other government agencies to ensure the smooth progress of the arrest operation.
In July, a senator issued an ultimatum to law enforcement officers to arrest Guo, warning that failure to do so would affect the 2025 budget.
