The camp of Alice Guo, the dismissed president of the Danzhen province Banban Society, claims that documents such as electricity bills alone are insufficient to prove her alleged involvement in human trafficking.
Authorities earlier stated that the electricity bill of an online gambling company, which was searched for suspected human trafficking activities, was registered under the name of Alice Guo.
In the counter-evidence submitted to the Department of Justice through her lawyers, Guo stated that the investigative team should dismiss the charges brought against her by the Philippine police and the Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission.
Alice Guo argued that an electricity bill is merely a record of electricity usage and does not determine who was actually present at the site of the alleged illegal activities.
In the counter-evidence submitted by her lawyers from Gana Atienza Avisado Law Firm, she stated: "I have never seen a case where a single electricity bill can effectively prove someone's involvement in human trafficking."
Guo added that being a former shareholder of the real estate company Baofu, which leased land to the Banban gambling operation, does not imply involvement in management, decision-making, or operations.
She stated that she could not influence the operations of Baofu, including its alleged illegal activities.
Guo said: "My lawyer told me that merely being a legal person of a company does not imply malice."
Guo also stated that her previous role as president of the Banban Society did not constitute a criminal act of human trafficking.
She said her responsibilities included issuing licenses and permits, as the so-called online gambling operator Zun Yuan provided the necessary documents when applying for a business license.
Guo stated: "Given that Zun Yuan submitted complete documents that met all necessary legal standards, I had no reason to refuse their license application."
She urged the Department of Justice investigative team to reconsider the case and accept her submitted counter-evidence.
