Marco Emilio Hincapié, the chairman of the Colombian gambling regulatory authority, said: "This year, the monopoly revenue paid to Coljuegos by online games has increased by nearly 20%."
"This means that, so far, online gambling has brought about 231.3 billion Colombian pesos (44.2 million pounds) in revenue for the health of Colombians."
Hincapié added that in the second quarter of this year, online gaming sales exceeded 10 billion Colombian pesos (1.9 million pounds), with sports betting being the most popular vertical sector.
He said: "The significant contribution of the gambling industry to the economy is largely due to our progress in regulation, illegal activity control, and the positive growth of online gambling during the Copa America and the European Championship."
"We are pleased to learn that the gambling industry has made a positive contribution to the nation's economy and health."
"If we add up all the gambling concepts and models, so far we have collected more than 581 billion Colombian pesos (111 million pounds)."
"We will continue to write new stories for the entities and the industry. Our goal is to continue innovating and setting rules so that all types of games can create more jobs, stimulate the economy, and continue to provide valuable resources for health and scientific research."
