The police in the Golden Triangle Special Zone of Bojiao Province, in collaboration with the Ministry of Defense working group stationed in the Special Zone and the Chinese police force, totaling 205 personnel, carried out a raid on 3 telecom fraud (colcenter) dens within the Special Zone. A total of 771 individuals were arrested during this operation, including 282 women from 15 different nationalities.
Among the 771 arrested, there were 106 Chinese nationals (5 women); 275 Laotian citizens (143 women); 231 Myanmar nationals (93 women); 73 Filipino nationals (23 women); 29 Indian nationals (2 women); 20 Indonesian nationals (6 women); 6 Mozambicans; 11 Ethiopians (2 women); 6 Ugandans (5 women); 5 Vietnamese (1 woman); 4 Tunisians; 2 Rwandans; 1 Colombian; 1 Georgian (female); 1 Burundian.
A total of 709 desktop computers, 28 laptops, 1896 mobile phones, 2 iPads, and 10 USBs were seized.
For the arrested Laotian suspects, an educational warning memorandum was issued, and their relatives were asked to sign a guarantee and take them back to their local area. As for the 106 Chinese nationals involved in telecom fraud, they were handed over to the Chinese side during a transfer ceremony at the Mohan-Boten International Border on August 15th. Other nationals were handed over to their respective embassies for legal processing according to regulations.
This crackdown on the telecom fraud syndicate in the Golden Triangle Economic Special Zone of Bojiao Province aims to address various transnational crimes in the area, ensuring peace, order, and security. It also serves to deter illegal activities, ensuring that all business operations within the Special Zone are legal and compliant, and to prevent any future illegal activities.
