Thirteen senators from Nebraska, USA, have issued a statement opposing the proposed legalization of mobile gambling. They cited data from the National Council on Problem Gambling in the USA, indicating that the risk of gambling addiction related to online sports betting has increased by 30%.

The statement reads: "Nebraska has only recently legalized casinos, primarily due to promises of property tax relief, but these promises have not been fulfilled. Further expansion of the gambling industry will inevitably lead to an increase in related addictive behaviors and bring more pain to our communities. Online sports betting turns every mobile phone into an all-day handheld gambling device, leading to new addictive behaviors."

Senators John Lowe, Ray Aguilar, Joni Albrecht, Robert Clements, Robert Dover, Steve Erdman, Steve Halloran, Brian Hardin, Rick Holdcroft, Loren Lippincott, Rita Sanders, and Julie Slama signed the statement.
