According to Philippine media, President Marcos of the Philippines announced a full investigation into the escape incident of Alice Guo, the dismissed mayor of Banban town in Tarlac province.
In the early hours of August 21, Marcos stated via social media that the government will conduct a thorough investigation to uncover the truth and to sanction those who assisted Alice Guo in her escape.
"We will expose the criminals who betrayed the trust of the people and helped her flee. The comprehensive investigation is underway, and those responsible will be suspended and legally held accountable," he said in the statement.
Marcos mentioned in his statement that Guo's escape has exposed corruption issues within the judicial system, eroding public trust.
Marcos emphasized, "Let's be clear, someone will be brought down because of this."
Reports indicate that on August 19, Philippine Senator Risa Hontiveros stated during a Senate session that she received information that Alice Guo had left the Philippines for Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on July 17, 2024.
On the same day, Dana Sandoval, a spokesperson for the Philippine Immigration Bureau, confirmed that Alice Guo is currently in Indonesia.
On August 20, the Executive Secretary of the Philippines ordered the cancellation of Alice Guo's Philippine passport.
