The National Football League Players Association (NFLPA) has taken the American gambling giant DraftKings to court over an alleged anticipatory breach. The association is seeking damages, although many details remain unclear.

The lawsuit was filed on August 20 in the Southern District of New York. However, court documents have not been made public, and the case is shrouded in some mystery. Reportedly, NFLPA lawyers are currently seeking a court order to submit a redacted version of the complaint.

Furthermore, David Greenspan, co-chair of the sports business at Winston & Strawn LLP, is listed as the lawyer for the NFLPA in the litigation records.

DraftKings is one of the NFL's gambling partners

This lawsuit comes after DraftKings was designated as one of the NFL's three official sports betting partners in April 2021. At that time, DraftKings, FanDuel, and Caesars joined the league as official sponsors, highlighting their commitment to professional football.

The deal allows DraftKings to integrate sports betting content directly into NFL media assets, such as NFL.com and the official NFL app. The sports betting company also agreed to use official NFL league data as well as NFL highlights, video clips, and Next Gen States content. DraftKings was also designated as the NFL's official daily fantasy partner.

Through this deal, DraftKings aims to completely transform the NFL sports betting experience, providing fans with unparalleled betting and daily fantasy content.

Rumors suggest that the lawsuit may be related to DraftKings' recently discontinued NFT product, which could potentially lead to a breach.
