The Nebraska Legislature adjourned indefinitely on Tuesday (August 20th) without discussing the proposal to legalize online sports betting in the state. Last week, Senator Eliot Bostar submitted a constitutional amendment to the committee to allow voters to express their opinions on legalization in November, but this move still faces opposition, with 13 senators signing a statement against the proposal.
The LB13 bill aims to legalize online sports betting and impose a 20% tax on gambling. About 90% of the tax revenue would be transferred to a property tax relief cash fund. An amendment led by Senator John Cavanaugh would allow the legislature to legalize sports betting, rather than enforcing it.
