Stephanie Peacock, the Labour MP for Barnsley South, has been appointed as the new Minister for Gambling at the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport.
Previously, Peacock served as the Shadow Minister for Media, Gambling, and Sport until last week's general election, where she retained her seat in South Yorkshire, marking a significant victory for the Labour Party.
Over the past year, Peacock has been a staunch advocate for British horse racing, arguing in a debate last October that "the future of horse racing must be preserved for future generations." She was also one of the MPs who visited Doncaster as a guest of the Arena Racing Company in 2023.
In February this year, Peacock participated in a debate on affordability checks, expressing the shared concerns of the horse racing and gambling industries as well as the tens of thousands who signed a petition against them. That same month, she spoke at the annual meeting of the Gambling and Gaming Commission and supported the BGC's Grand National charity betting event.
