On August 27 local time, Philippine senators took turns questioning Shiela Guo, the sister of POGO Mayor Guo Huaping, about how she and her siblings managed to escape from the Philippines. Shiela Guo told a vague story and informed the senators that she thought she was merely accompanying her sister on a trip, unaware of why they needed to flee the Philippines.
Senator Ronald "Bato" dela Rosa, upon hearing this, became furious, stating that Shiela Guo was clearly lying: "You are obviously lying! Don't fool us here!!"
Before dela Rosa's outburst, Shiela Guo described how she, Guo Huaping, and their brother Wesley Guo escaped from a farm in Danleng Province to the south. However, she could not recall the exact date they left the Philippines, only mentioning that it was around the first week of July this year. When asked about the details of their "escape," Shiela said they took at least three boats. They first boarded a small white boat, then switched to a larger one, and finally to a smaller boat that took them to Semporna, Malaysia.
However, dela Rosa expressed his disbelief that Shiela was unaware of her sister's escape plan. He questioned, "Are you sure you never asked why you were taking a boat to Malaysia instead of flying out? Why didn't you ask why you had to keep switching boats? You are clearly deceiving us." But Shiela insisted that she was not fooling the committee.
When Senate Acting President Jinggoy Ejercito Estrada further inquired whether Shiela knew the whereabouts of Guo Huaping, Shiela stated that her sister did not tell her anything when they separated in Indonesia on either August 19 or 20. Estrada asked, "She just left like that?" Shiela replied, "She just told me we had to part ways for now. I asked her where she was going, and she told me I didn't need to know."
According to Shiela, she and Wesley initially planned to return to Singapore and then go to Hong Kong. However, she and Cassandra Li Ong were arrested in Indonesia on August 21 and were deported back to the Philippines on August 22.
During the hearing, Shiela explained to the senators that she and Guo Huaping did not grow up together but met when she was 17 years old. Shiela also admitted she was born in China and came to the Philippines in 2001.
