India aims to generate up to $1.7 billion in tax revenue from online gambling platforms in the upcoming fiscal year.

According to India's Finance Minister Sanjay Malhotra, India expects to collect about 140 billion rupees ($1.7 billion) in Goods and Services Tax (GST) from online gambling companies in the next fiscal year.

This decision affects an emerging industry worth $1.5 billion, supported by global investors, and the government considers this decision reasonable due to concerns about addiction issues.

Malhotra detailed the government's overall GST collection situation, averaging 1.7 trillion rupees per month. He added that they expect the average monthly collection in the next fiscal year to be between 1.80 trillion and 1.85 trillion rupees.
