Gaming Innovation Group (GiG) has appointed Andreas Söneby as a board member for its platform division, effective immediately.
Söneby is renowned for his experience in the gaming and technology sectors, having held senior positions at Unibet, Kindred Group, and Kambi.
As the Chief Information Officer at Kambi, Söneby was responsible for overseeing the company's technology strategy and managing a large team during a period of significant growth.
Prior to joining Kambi, Söneby served as the Chief Technology Officer and IT Director at Unibet Group, playing a key role in the establishment of Kambi as an independent entity within the group.
His career also includes executive roles at White Hat Gaming and Instabox, and he is currently a venture partner at Industrifonden.
Söneby replaces Tomasz Juroszek as a member of the GiG platform board, with other members including Petter Nylander, Hessi Mocca, Mikael Riese Harstad, and Nicolas Adlercreutz.
The GiG platform board focuses on the platform and sports betting verticals, operating as an ad hoc committee under the broader GiG board, as the company prepares to spin off this division later this year.
This month, the company completed the acquisition of SEO and content service provider Titan for €3.2 million (US$3.5 million), which is expected to support the operational capabilities of Gentoo Media (formerly GiG Media).
The company also reported that, driven by organic growth, its media division's revenue increased by 39% year-over-year in the second quarter of 2024. However, the platform and sports betting divisions faced challenges, with both revenue and adjusted EBITDA declining in the same period.
Söneby's addition to the board is seen as a move to strengthen GiG's leadership position as the company continues to expand its business and prepare for the upcoming business restructuring, including the anticipated spin-off of the platform and sports betting divisions on October 1, 2024.
