A group member contributed: I was caught in the #BanBan Park, detained under the sun for two months, and then deported back to Malaysia.
Malaysians returning home generally face no issues, they enter the country and go straight home. When deported, one just has to pay for their own flight ticket (money is useless inside, no matter how much you have, once you're in, just wait to be deported). Our time was relatively better, those who came after us had their mobile phones confiscated.
I was detained there for two months, and for two months the air conditioning was blasting non-stop. It's much better than prisons in the Philippines, like Muntinlupa. Prisons in the Philippines are not fit for humans. I heard that in Philippine prisons, bunk beds can have up to 4 or 5 levels, cramming dozens of people into a small room.
There's also a group of Chinese nationals who are still detained and have not been deported yet. As for why they haven't been deported, I'm not sure.
Some say they wait until they have enough people to charter a flight back. At that time, Malaysians were among the first to be deported, and we didn't need to wear prison clothes or be handcuffed. It was like touring the airport leisurely.
I remember that the Chinese nationals who were deported after us were handcuffed and had to wear prison uniforms at the airport. When we returned, we weren't photographed or reported in the news, only the Chinese nationals were reported, all dressed in prison uniforms and handcuffed at the airport.
Group member PS: It's really a slap in the face for the Chinese, the treatment is worlds apart, all being treated like fraudsters.
