Philippine controversial mayor Alice Guo (POGO Mayor)’s lawyer, Stephen David, revealed that Alice Guo intends to surrender but has not yet done so due to concerns for her personal safety. David stated that in their last conversation on August 22, Guo again expressed her willingness to surrender but was apprehensive about potential threats.
David quoted Guo’s words saying, “Threats exist both internally and externally. We cannot disclose details at this time, but her main concern is safety, as not only the government but many others are also interested in her.”
Nevertheless, David hopes that Guo will consider surrendering after seeing co-accused Sheila Guo and Cassandra Li Ong arrested in Indonesia and safely handed over to the Philippine authorities. He said, “Alice Guo is aware of Sheila Guo’s current situation, and I believe this might encourage her to lean towards surrendering. Sheila Guo’s mental and physical state has improved.”
Additionally, David revealed that he spoke with Wesley Guo on August 31. Although Wesley did not disclose his specific location, he showed concern for Alice Guo and the progress of the case. The Philippine Bureau of Immigration is investigating reports that Wesley might be staying in Hong Kong, China.
Moreover, the Guo family faces new money laundering charges submitted to the Department of Justice by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), the Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission (PAOCC), and the Anti-Money Laundering Council (AMLC). David also called for the Senate to release Sheila Guo, stating she was less involved in the POGO case and unaware of the related affairs. The Senate Justice Subcommittee plans to reconvene on September 2 to review how the Guo siblings and Ms. Wang left the country.
