The Sports Commission of the Chamber of Deputies approved a proposal that conditions the transfer of federal public funds and lotteries to entities that guarantee equality between female and male categories, in the training of athletes. The text by rapporteur Helena Lima adds the condition to the General Sports Law, which already requires equality in awards to male and female athletes and para-athletes.
The approved proposal includes an amendment by rapporteur, Deputy Helena Lima (MDB-RR), to Bill 1891/22, from Deputies Tabata Amaral (PSB-SP) and Lídice da Mata (PSB-BA). The original project modified the Pelé Law to establish that, from 2025, there will be parity in the investment of public resources in sports practice modalities between the female and male categories.
Helena Lima stated that parity in the allocation of resources would not have the same effect on all modalities, and it is likely that such an imposition would cause distortions at the time of application.
"There are, for example, modalities where the female category has greater projection, in which the effect of parity would be a reduction of resources for women".
According to Lima, it is more effective to intervene before these inequalities are established, that is, at the time of training athletes. "This way we can equalize opportunities and build the foundations for equal participation of men and women in sports", she said.
The proposal will be analyzed conclusively by the Finance and Taxation and Constitution and Justice committees.
