The International Institute of Governance and Risk (GovRisk), in partnership with Genius Sports and Entain, is proud to highlight the growing focus on environmental, social, and governance (ESG) issues, including education, gender and racial equality, in sports integrity at the Third Sports Integrity Summit, which will be held on September 5, at the Football Museum in São Paulo, Brazil.
Expanding the dialogue on sports integrity
As the world of sports continues to evolve, it becomes increasingly clear that integrity extends beyond the playing field. The Third Sports Integrity Summit will bring together global experts to discuss how sports organizations can better integrate principles of education and ESG into their operations and governance.
The event will also highlight the vital role of racial and gender equality in promoting a more inclusive and ethical sports environment.
Main sessions and featured speakers:
* Tiago Horta Barbosa, Director of Integrity, Latin America, Genius Sports: Tiago will lead a discussion on the importance of educational initiatives to protect athletes from match-fixing and gambling. He will highlight how comprehensive educational programs can empower athletes to make ethical decisions. "Education is fundamental to protecting athletes and maintaining sports integrity. By providing athletes with the right tools and knowledge, we help them resist illicit temptations and promote a culture of fairness.”
* Roberta Codignoto, Compliance Consultant and Volunteer in Initiatives to Promote Integrity in Business: Roberta notes the fundamental importance of gender diversity and inclusion in sports governance. She argues that "true integrity in sports cannot be achieved without diverse voices at the decision-making table. Gender balance and inclusion are not just ethical imperatives; they are strategic necessities for sustainable success".
* Fernando Monfardini, Director of Compliance and ESG at Atlético Mineiro: Fernando will share insights on the urgent need for sports organizations to adopt comprehensive integrity practices that include environmental management and social responsibility. "In today's world, the responsibility of sports organizations goes beyond the field. Embracing integrity means committing to environmental sustainability and social equality. It's not just about the game - it's about the impact we leave on our communities and our planet".
* Expanding the scope of sports integrity - This year's summit will delve deeper into the intersection of sports integrity with broader social issues. The sessions will explore topics such as:
* Educational programs: Developing and implementing educational programs that address the risks of doping and match-fixing. Emphasis will be placed on educating athletes about the legal and ethical boundaries of sports and providing financial knowledge to prevent exploitation.
* Gender equality and diversity: The summit will focus on the fundamental role of gender diversity in sports governance, emphasizing the need for varied perspectives in promoting a culture of integrity. Speakers will explore how increased female representation in leadership positions can lead to more ethical and effective decision-making.
* Confidential support systems: Establishing confidential reporting mechanisms and counseling services to support athletes in resisting corruption and maintaining their integrity.
* Empowering athletes against racism: Developing actionable strategies to create inclusive sports environments, apply anti-racism policies, and promote respect and justice for all participants, ensuring that all athletes, regardless of their backgrounds, are supported and valued.
Dominic Le Moignan, Executive Director of GovRisk, commented: "The Third Sports Integrity Summit represents a fundamental opportunity to broaden our understanding of integrity in sports. By including issues of ESG, education, and gender in our discussions, we aim to promote a more holistic approach to governance that not only protects the integrity of the game but also positively contributes to society".
Looking to the future
The summit will offer a platform for industry leaders, government, and civil society to share best practices and collaborate on innovative solutions to the current challenges that sports integrity faces.
With Brazil at the forefront of these discussions, the event promises to establish a new standard for how sports organizations around the world can integrate ESG, education, and gender equality into their core practices.
