The resort will be renovated and will reopen in 2027 as Hard Rock Hotel & Casino and Guitar Hotel Las Vegas.

United States.- The iconic Mirage Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, known for its artificial volcano and tropical ambiance, has closed its doors, marking the end of an era that began in 1989. Hard Rock International acquired the Mirage in 2022 for USD1.070m; the complex was previously operated by MGM.

With a farewell event that took place yesterday afternoon, the famous 3000-room resort will officially close. As confirmed by the Los Angeles Times, the site will be transformed into the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino and Guitar Hotel Las Vegas, a project that is expected to open in the spring of 2027. This new resort will include a guitar-shaped hotel nearly 213 meters tall, inspired by a similar structure in Hollywood, Florida.

Hundreds of people gathered near the hotel-casino to watch the fire and light show prepared by Hard Rock International to commemorate the occasion.

Last week, gamblers had the opportunity to win part of a cash prize of USD$1.6m, according to Nevada state law.

“Before, nowhere in Las Vegas did you enter and there were craps tables or a small lobby and then a casino, but in this particular facility we said ‘no, you are not in a casino, you are in this beautiful tropical place that makes you feel good about yourself’, and that's what it was for many years,” said Mirage architect Paul Steelman to NBC.

The new Hard Rock Hotel & Casino and Guitar Hotel Las Vegas will employ about 7,000 workers, while an estimated 2,500 construction jobs are expected to be generated during the rebuilding process, as confirmed by CNN.

In April, another iconic resort in Las Vegas said goodbye. The Tropicana Las Vegas, which was the most luxurious hotel and casino in the 60s, and which hosted figures such as Elizabeth Taylor and Elvis Presley, as well as being a setting for the James Bond saga and major jazz milestones, has definitively closed its doors.
