The new site will be launched on May 19.
Costa Rica.- To strengthen the security of the site, the Board of Social Protection (JPS) announced that it will soon launch a new website for online lottery purchases. The initiative emerged after a computer scam that occurred between December 2021 and June 2022 was discovered.
From the JPS, it was indicated that the new site will allow for better control and enhanced security of online transactions, protecting buyers from potential scams and ensuring that purchases are made safely.
The previous website will remain active until May 18 as part of a transition period. Starting May 19, access will only be available at the new address www.jpsenlinea.go.cr.
From now on, customers of the Board will be required to have a digital signature if they wish to buy lottery tickets from the institution. Otherwise, they will have to resort to the traditional system and buy lottery tickets from a vendor.
Esmeralda Britton, president of the JPS, said: “The institution is in a process of transformation and we are pleased to announce that the online sales site has renewed its image” and mentioned that other payment methods will be announced soon, although she recalled that approximately 90 percent of lottery sales are made through vendors.

According to the Central Bank of Costa Rica, about 500,000 people currently have a digital signature. The JPS has not specified when alternative payment methods will be available. On the new site, users will be able to continue purchasing the popular lottery draws, known as “chances”, and the national lottery.
