On Monday (2), the Chief of Staff Minister, Rui Costa, appointed lawyer Giovanni Rocco Neto to lead the National Secretariat of Sports Betting and Economic Development of Sport at the Ministry of Sport. His first task will be to validate the approvals of the betting licenses to be authorized by the Secretariat of Prizes and Betting.
Published in the Official Gazette of the Union this Monday (2), Personnel Ordinance 955, signed by the Chief of Staff Minister, Rui Costa, appointing lawyer Giovanni Rocco Neto as the new head of the National Secretariat of Sports Betting and Economic Development of Sport at the Ministry of Sport.
With a postgraduate degree in Political Science, Rocco Neto was the executive director of Ability Government Relations and director of programs and projects at the Intermunicipal Consortium of Grande ABC (metropolitan region of São Paulo). Former advisor on governmental and economic affairs at the São Bernardo do Campo city hall, he led the Association in Defense of Integrity, Rights, and Duties in Games and Betting.
At the National Secretariat of Sports Betting of the Ministry of Sport, he will be tasked with conducting studies and coordinating actions to promote the development of the sports market, focusing on combating result manipulation and enhancing sports development actions in Brazil.
Under his supervision will also be monitoring the work of the Secretariat of Prizes and Betting of the Ministry of Finance in analyzing and approving the license requests of bets. The Ministry of Sport will endorse the authorizations granted by the SPA, and this will be one of the most important actions of Rocco Neto at the head of the Secretariat.
In case of disagreement between the decisions of the SPA and the National Secretariat of Sports Betting of the Ministry of Sport, the final decision will belong to the Attorney General of the Union.
