According to media reports, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sukha reiterated that efforts to combat telecommunications fraud in Cambodia will be intensified. Telecommunications fraud is having a negative impact on Cambodian society and the daily lives of its people.
Ministry of Interior spokesperson Dusuka stated that recently, the Ministry convened a meeting to establish a "Special Committee" responsible for reviewing the performance of provinces and cities in combating telecommunications fraud.
He said that the Ministry has been studying the effectiveness of actions against telecommunications fraud and continuously strengthening these efforts.
Dusuka pointed out that Cambodia has arrested many suspects and has either prosecuted them or deported them. Additionally, Cambodians and foreigners who were unknowingly involved in telecommunications fraud are being educated and informed to cease such activities immediately.
"Over the past year, we have severely cracked down on telecommunications fraud at nine locations in Sihanoukville, and we plan to continue investigating and searching for the masterminds, as they usually reside in other provinces," he said.
He emphasized that once specific locations are identified, the police will apprehend fugitive suspects involved in telecommunications fraud cases and then take further actions. Meanwhile, he hopes for cooperation from provincial and city police forces to continue the strict crackdown on fraud cases, ensuring that it does not affect foreign investment.
It is understood that in the first half of this year, Cambodians lost about 40 million US dollars due to various forms of fraud.
