Philippine senators on Wednesday (September 4) expressed their hope that the dismissed mayor Alice Guo, also known as the POGO Mayor, would eventually respond to their inquiries about her alleged involvement in the POGO operations in Tarlac Province, Banban, following her arrest in Indonesia.
Senators Risa Hontiveros and Sherwin Gatchalian welcomed this development and thanked the Indonesian authorities for arresting Guo Wengui (also known as Alice Guo), who has been evading Philippine authorities since May.
"Alice Guo expressed her gratitude at the Senate hearing. We thank the National Bureau of Investigation for their commitment to hand her over to the Senate after dealing with her. To whoever helped her escape, we will not let you go," Hontiveros said in a statement.
"I expect Alice Guo to face the Senate hearing soon. We appreciate the National Bureau of Investigation's commitment to hand her over to the Senate after dealing with her. As for those who helped her escape, we will not let you go."
Hontiveros chairs two Senate committees, which investigate the Philippines' illegal offshore gambling operations and the escape of Alice Guo and her companions.
