The latest research from the University of Massachusetts shows that in the first year of legalized sports betting in Massachusetts, the state made progress but did not transfer a significant amount of illegal sports betting revenue into its treasury.
According to a survey conducted by the University of Massachusetts School of Public Health and Health Sciences in 2022 and 2023, the monthly proportion of gamblers participating in illegal sports betting has not changed over the two years.
However, from 2022 to 2023, the monthly proportion of gamblers participating in online legal sports betting has increased, although illegal sports betting remains stagnant.
