BetMGM announced that they are once again partnering with the American Gaming Association (AGA) to promote Responsible Gaming Education Month (RGEM 2024) in September.
The two companies will execute their responsible gaming activities for the second year at designated NFL stadiums and increase the exposure of GameSense, an industry-leading responsible gaming program first developed and licensed by the British Columbia Lottery Corporation (BCLC) in 2017 to MGM Resorts.
The program focuses on proactive, transparent, and active engagement with guests and customers on how to gamble responsibly. With this development, GameSense marketing will appear more frequently at more prominent venue locations during each game.
In 2023, MGM Resorts and BetMGM were among the first gaming operators to promote responsible gaming by marketing within league stadiums.
"We are thrilled to once again bring fans at these NFL venues directly into responsible gaming programs this season," said Rhea Loney, Chief Compliance Officer at BetMGM. "We are setting new standards for safety and awareness in the industry. At BetMGM, we believe that protecting our players and promoting responsible play is crucial for the future of sports betting.
BetMGM will also increase its advertising portfolio in the coming months, highlighting its comprehensive responsible gaming resources. These ads will feature brand ambassadors sharing compelling information, similar to its highly acclaimed responsible gaming ads starring NHL MVP Connor McDavid.
Additionally, on the occasion of RGEM 2024, MGM Resorts announced a donation of $440,000 to the International Center for Responsible Gaming and the Kindbridge Research Institute to fund responsible gaming research. These studies aim to promote industry best practices and fill significant research gaps for under-researched populations, including female veterans.
"The importance of funding for responsible gaming research cannot be overstated," said Stephen Martino, Senior Vice President and Chief Compliance Officer at MGM Resorts. "As leaders in the gaming industry, our company must support efforts to better understand the different impacts of gambling on various populations, including those who may be more likely to develop problematic behaviors.
Throughout RGEM 2024, MGM Resorts and BetMGM will continue extensive training to raise employee awareness of responsible gaming. Recently, MGM Resorts' GameSense Advisor Program certified over 500 customer-facing employees, equipping them with the skills and confidence to introduce casino games to customers and enabling them to make informed decisions. BetMGM will also deploy extensive employee training, including additional education for its VIP employees, while advancing responsible gaming through life experiences via its EPIC Global Solutions partnership.
Furthermore, in September, new GameSense messages will be prominently displayed on table games at MGM Resorts hotels nationwide. All slot machines will continue to offer similar messages, with 8,000 machines featuring QR codes that provide responsible gaming information and educational materials from GameSense. Responsible gaming tips will also appear on over 35,000 screens at MGM Resorts' Las Vegas marquees and across the company's product portfolio. BetMGM will also release enhanced responsible gaming tools on its platform. These tools are designed to help players manage their budgets, stay within their limits, and promote a responsible and sustainable entertainment experience.
MGM Resorts and BetMGM continue to collaborate with AGA's Have A Game Plan.® Bet Responsibly.™ public service campaign, educating both novice and experienced bettors on responsible sports betting. The campaign aims to protect customers and strengthen the use of regulated markets that prioritize player protection and safeguards.
