Fourteen current and former employees of the casino had sued the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF) demanding salary improvements.
Uruguay.- The justice system overturned a previous ruling that favored the employees of Casino Nogaró and has supported the Ministry of Economy. Fourteen current and former employees of the casino had filed a lawsuit against the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF) demanding payment for night hours.
Although in October 2023 a judge had issued a ruling in favor of the employees, in August of this year the Court of Appeals in Civil Matters of the 2nd shift annulled that decision, as reported by Diario Correo de Punta del Este.

The employees, who work between 19:00 and 4:00, were requesting a minimum supplement of 20 percent for working during night hours. In their lawsuit, they alleged that the MEF had not paid this compensation between June 1 and June 30, 2015 and that, in December of that year, it issued a decree establishing conditions less favorable than those required by law. However, in August, the favorable ruling for the employees was revoked and the justice ruled in favor of the Ministry of Economy.
