Representative Mónica Zalazar introduced an initiative that enables the request for the National Identity Document (DNI) in casinos, bingos, and gambling venues to prevent the presence of teenagers and self-excluded players.

Argentina.- Provincial representative Mónica Zalazar presented to the Legislature of Catamarca a project aimed at enhancing control measures around gambling in the province. Zalazar's proposal seeks to reduce the impact of unauthorized individuals in casinos, bingos, or any other type of gambling venue.

The initiative allows for the request to show the National Identity Document (DNI) to anyone present in these establishments and, in case of non-compliance with the prohibition, allows for the application of sanctions such as warnings, fines, or temporary closures. The proposal aims to limit the reported presence of young people and self-excluded individuals in venues where gambling is practiced.

“The use of casinos, gambling, bingos, and other forms of betting can be especially dangerous for teenagers,” stated the representative in the project, explaining that “this stage of life is critical, as young people are in the process of emotional and cognitive development, which can make them more vulnerable to addictions and financial problems associated with gambling”.

Regarding individuals who decide to self-exclude, she explains that “self-exclusion for pathological gamblers is a mechanism that any person addicted to gambling can adopt with the aim of having restricted access to establishments where gambling is practiced. This means having entry barred in casinos, bingos, or betting houses dedicated to the practice of gambling and betting of all kinds,” emphasized Zalazar.

For this reason, she proposes the creation of a provincial registry of self-exclusion for gamblers, where individuals who voluntarily wish to exclude themselves from access to gaming rooms must register in person, providing personal data and signing an adherence document.
